Our Approach

Two categories of activity: Community Meetings held in partnership with churches, women's associations and existing community platforms; and Community Sensitization Meetings held directly at village level with community leaders and Self-Help Group members — several timed alongside Project ELEMENT's PRA exercises to reach leaders already gathered for that purpose.

Community Meetings

Conducted in partnership with an existing community gathering — a church service, fellowship or association meeting — reaching a general audience. Sessions cover the TB scenario, causes and treatment, common myths, government schemes including the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, and the TB Arogya Saathi App, closing with a commitment to encourage testing and support those affected rather than stigmatise them.

Community Sensitization Meetings

Village-level sessions convened specifically on TB, bringing together community leaders, Village Council/VDB representatives and SHG members at the Community Hall — several organised alongside Project ELEMENT's PRA exercises. Sessions close with an interactive question-and-answer session.

What This Adds Up To

  • 9 meetings held across 8 locations in Dimapur and Chumoukedima district, reaching 517 participants (214 male, 304 female).
  • Community Meetings reached 298 people through existing church and community-association platforms — including a parish fathers' training, a youth fellowship, a Sunday congregation and the Nagaland Catholic Women Association's annual meeting.
  • Community Sensitization Meetings reached 219 village leaders and SHG members directly, three of the four timed alongside Project ELEMENT PRA exercises already convening those leaders.
  • A recurring request from communities was for the District TB Unit to conduct sample collection directly in the village, given the distance and cost of travel to Dimapur.
  • Every meeting closed with participants committing to encourage testing for anyone symptomatic, and to support — rather than stigmatise — individuals and families affected by TB.
